Role & Functions Study
The Commission is the only case management certification body that uses a research-based approach to develop and validate its CCM® certification exam and to ensure that it reflects the current state of case management practice. We field this survey of case managers to gather specifics about their knowledge, skills and activities to inform the exam. We also use the survey’s results to demonstrate the capabilities and functional roles performed by case managers to policymakers, employers and regulators.
The 2009 CCMC Role & Functions Study captured the perceptions of nearly 7,000 case managers. Its results informed the CCM exam structure along knowledge domains and case management activities. The results were used to produce the Commission’s Case Management Knowledge Framework, released in 2011 for all partners in health care quality to freely use to help identify training needs of professional case managers as they take expanded roles in new models of care.
