Why renewal is a very good career move:

  • Protect the investment you have made in becoming a CCM.
  • Keep your options open for higher income and better supervisory positions.
  • More employers are requesting certified case managers.
  • Career advertisements are increasingly asking for certification.
  • Keep current, explore new technologies, enhance critical skills, and acquire knowledge in specific focus areas through continuing education.
  • The precis below provides an overview of the CCM renewal requirements.

To remain certified CCM's must:

  • Renew at five-year intervals.
  • Document 80 clock hours of approved continuing education OR retake the CCM examination. (Most renewals are achieved through continuing education programs.)
  • Verify that the license or certification on which your CCM is based is active and in good standing.

Cost of continuing education hours

If the hours for continuing education are pre-approved by CCMC, no charges are incurred. Otherwise, the processing cost is $10.00 per course, or a maximum of $35.00 for four or more courses submitted together that were taken in the same calendar year.

For example, if you took four non-pre-approved courses in 1998, six courses in 1999, and one course in 2000, the amount owed would be $35.00 (1998) plus $35.00 (1999) and $10.00 (2000), for a total of $80.00.

Internet License Verifications for Renewals

To make it easier for you to renew your CCM credential, the CCMC now
allows confirmation of your license through Internet verification. This
change has been due to the fact that some state licensure boards are not willing to verify licenses in writing, or charge high fees to do so.

Visit your state board's web site and print out your license
verification. Then photocopy your current license, attach both to Form A
that is included in your renewal packet, and forward to the
Administrative Office when you submit your renewal application.
